Task One - Forms of Television Advertising

blog 2

Forms of television advertising

introduction
It is very rare to find an advert that is more than one minute because the purpose of it is to catch the audience’s attention. This is done by using different type of methods/ways including music that is appropriate for the advert. Additionally, television advertisements can also be used to convey important messages to the public. Political parties sometimes make television advertisements to show the public what they would do if they came into power, this method is known as indoctrinating audiences. There are many different types of structure of adverts and these are: Narrative adverts, Non-linear narrative, Realist adverts, Anti-realist adverts, Documentary style, Animation and Talking heads.

An example of a realistic advert:

FIFA 15 game play trailer
This would count as a realist advertisement, because it give the impression to be set in real-life. A realist advert is an advert with a story, appearing to be both accurate and true to life. The product suggest that this is a real life situation as the game is set as how a real life football would be set. FIFA 15 brings you a realistic gaming experience when it comes to the development of a player and their potential.A realist advert is an advertisement which uses realistic procedures to persuade customers to do a specific thing. This kind of advertisement is used so people are able to relate to it. This type of advertisement is used for FIFA advert. The voice over instructs the viewers on how FIFA 15 will solve the problem giving them assurance. I think that this is a strong way to advertise as they use animation to relate to real life footballer which will entertain both male and female with a different age group .FIFA 15 is positive to realistic advertising as the advert adds realism to a game and that they felt positively towards the brand.

Bring On The Trumpets - The Natural Confectionery Company

An example of an anti realistic advert:

This advert is an anti-realist advert because the advert is not real. In this advert it has two sweets talking which is very unrealistic. This advert is very reliable as it makes people laugh by saying “bring on the trumpet” consistently, so therefore people could remember it and talk about the advert with each other. This advert is fictional, as it is invented to look real because we could see two sweet talking to each other. There is a voice over at the end of the advert which talks about what sweet flavour taste better. The main shot used in this advert was a two shot. This shot is used to show both the characters in this advert while they are talking to each other. I think that this advert is funny and if I could, I would buy some sweet from the natural confectionery company as they use the anti-realist structure very well.

An example of a Animation advert:

John Lewis Christmas Advert 2013 - The Bear & The Hare

Animation advert is simply beneficial because you can make animated characters do what you want because it very rare to see Hares and Bears being best buddies due to a Bear being a predator, whereas a hare is a prey of the Bear, so using animation you can make 2 different characteristic of animals get along through the use of animation. Using animation you can do things that you couldn't do in real life, for example if a Hare comes close to a Bear real life it very likely for the Hare to get eaten by the Bear. In Addition, this advert brought different species of animal together. So therefore, this shows that animation could do what seems to be impossible, possible. Kids would now want their parent to shop at John Lewis,  so therefore animations adverts draws audience in.
An example of a talking head:

Debt Matters Advert 'Talking Heads' by Recipe Advertising Ltd - London

It is often used in charity adverts, where people who have benefited from the charity speak to the viewer, often thanking them for their efforts.

Talking head advert are where they interview everyday people who give them their options and ideas. in this advert you see the contrast between the man that's in the dept and the adviser. The knows this by the contrast of the way they both dress and the different type of colour of the back ground portray. The guy in red is asking for a loan because he is in dept.On the other hand, the guy in the black is shown as a upper working class, who advise people on what to do when they are in dept. The in black believe he could get the guy in red out of dept '' In Five years'', so therefore for people who are in the same position as the guy in red, they will agree with this advert as it is helping their needs.

An example of a documentary advert

Vodafone Families

This documentary advert for Vodaphone. It uses real British families to promote its new Red+ plan with a documentary style.  Cast through a combination of focus groups, postings on Mumsnet and street castings, the campaign created to promote Vodafone’s new plan that allows multiple people to share one simple data allowance. It is based on the central idea of sharing the creative shows how today’s families come in all shapes and sizes and that it’s the sharing that goes on between them that makes them family. this is positive as it suggest how Vodaphone is positively good, as it bring the family together and give them the opportunity to be able to communicate with one another.

An example of a Stand Alone Advert;

The advert features two children, a boy and a girl, sitting in front of a grey backdrop at a photographer's studio. When the photographer leaves the shot to answer the telephone, the boy presses a button on his watch, which started playing a song. The children begin to move their eyebrows up and down to the beat of the song. Throughout the song, the children move their heads from to left to right, up and down staring into a number of cameras, as they continue to move their eyebrows. The advert is negative, because the children moving their eye brows really doesn't go with the whole point of trying to sell Cadbury’s chocolate to its audience. In fact, you don't even know that it's for Cadbury until the very end of the advert. This could actually confuse a lot of people who are watching the advert.
An example of a two series advert

These adverts are about a BMW 1 series car and its strength and purposes. This advert is aimed at people who are interested in BMW cars, especially hatchback cars,  Additionally this is aimed for young people has it’s designed to interest young people.I think that these adverts are effective because it gives facts about how the car is good to use and how that it better than all other car modems. This makes people have a interest in the car. Another thing that makes the advert good is the story lines, the story lines of the adverts are good for younger people who are looking to get a car of their own.

  1. Well done. You have worked very hard on this Blog Post. Wherever possible think about camera angle, editing, sound and mise en scene. That will give added focus and detail to your analysis.
